WHY ARE THERE ALTERNATE SIDE PARKING RULES IN NEW YORK CITY?

The ASP Rules are also referred to as the NYC Street Cleaning Rules.  This is because New York City needs to be able to clean it’s streets. So, each day, they require that cars are removed from the street for a couple of hours a day.  During that period, Street Sweepers and Street Cleaners work to clean the streets of New York City.

New York City Parking Tickets

If you violate New York City Parking laws, including alternate side parking rules which may be in effect in NYC, you may receive a parking ticket.  Sometimes, people get parking tickets and never realize one has been issued.  Often a pedestrian or the wind removes the ticket from the car.  Rain and other conditions may render a ticket illegible.  If you wish to check to see if you have a parking ticket in NYC, you can use the NYC Department of Finance Parking Ticket Information Site.

The good news is, you can pay your NYC Tickets online! (through NYC department of finance)

PARKING RULES IN NEW YORK CITY DURING WINTER STORMS

When a storm hits New York City, especially in the event of a Blizzard or other snow storm, alternate side parking rules are often suspended.  However, if there is a snow storm in New York City, do not assume that parking rules will be suspended.  You can check the NYC Alternate Side Twitter page for real time parking rule updates in the event of a Blizzard or winter storm.  Please note that often, parking meter rules will still be in effect.
