BEST PARKING NYC TIP #2: PARKING IN NYC IS OFTEN FREE ON SUNDAYS!

Many people do not realize that often parking regulations are suspended in Manhattan and in New York City on Sundays.  If you can wait until Sunday to run your errands, you can often park for free in areas of NYC that you might otherwise not be able to get to by car.  It is often best to plan any parking in NYC that you need to get done for Sunday.  The earlier in the day on Sunday you plan to park in New York City, the better.

Have you heard how expensive parking lots are in NYC?  Most people know that parking in New York City is expensive.  However, with a little work, you can score discounted parking in NYC!  One way to do so is by finding out if the garage you are going to has an “early bird special” which lowers the parking rate.  The way that these parking specials work is that you have to enter the parking lot by a certain time (for example, before 10am) and if you do, your parking is at a significantly reduced rate.  This is a method New York City parking garages use to entice commuters who are not monthly parking customers to enter the lot early and often.  Often you can park for 10-12 hours for a significantly reduced rate.  You can call ahead or look for signage.

WHY ARE THERE ALTERNATE SIDE PARKING RULES IN NEW YORK CITY?

The ASP Rules are also referred to as the NYC Street Cleaning Rules.  This is because New York City needs to be able to clean it’s streets. So, each day, they require that cars are removed from the street for a couple of hours a day.  During that period, Street Sweepers and Street Cleaners work to clean the streets of New York City.
